Barn Conversion—Aylesbury
As part of their barn conversion this couple wanted to have a room dedicated to watching movies. When they visited our demonstration facilities they expected we would suggest a large flatscreen TV, so were delighted when we said we could install a full blown projection cinema.
Key elements
250 x 140 cm acoustically transparent screen
Low ambient noise equipment rack
5.1 Genelec surround sound
Lighting control
Barn conversions present many additional challenges for the installation of home entertainment systems, especially if they are listed. At Cyberhomes we always like to ensure all cables are hidden and the technology to blend seamlessly with the interior design. With this property there were restrictions on where cables could be run, although we did construct a false wall which allows the front in-wall speakers to be flush mounted behind the screen. An acoustically transparent screen then hangs in front of the speakers naturally concealing them.
A basic lighting control system was integrated into the Control4 room control to allow the lights to dim automatically when the projector is powered up. There was no space within the property for a dedicated plant room, so the equipment rack had to be located within the cinema room. Careful consideration was therefore given to selecting products with minimum fan noise so as not to detract from the movie experience.
“Cyberhomes achieved so much more than we thought possible in our barn conversion, creating our ideal home cinema. We were so impressed that I asked them to upgrade the audio-visual set-up in my company’s boardroom.”
