Cyberhomes Shortlisted for ‘Best Home Cinema’ in Smart Building Awards

Smart Building Awards Finalist 2019Cyberhomes are delighted to hear that we have been shortlisted in the ‘Best Home Cinema Project Over £50,000‘ category of the 2019 Smart Building Awards. The shortlisted project is our ‘Hampshire Smart Home’ project, which has already won the 2018 CEDIA award for ‘Best Home Cinema £120,000 – £340,000‘ and was Highly Commended for the 2018 CEDIA award for ‘Best Integrated Home £230,000 to £340,000‘.

The Smart Building Awards 2019 are trade-only awards run by Essential Install magazine, meaning consumers are not permitted to enter any category. Each award will be judged fairly by an expert panel based on the criteria set out for each category. The judges will individually score each entry, meaning none of the members on the judging panel will know the winner until it is announced on the evening of the event.

Ashwin Shah Ashwin Shah is one of the most experienced and imaginative install company leaders in the UK. Chairman and founder of Visual Systems Sales, part of the Myriad group established over 25 years ago, the company has operated in the domestic and commercial sectors to great success building a dedicated and highly knowledgeable team along the way. Most recently the company has introduced the innovation of creating its own properties fully loaded with smart systems. Multiple award winning and forward thinking, Ashwin is one of the pillars of the UK install community.
Chris Haslam Chris Haslam has been a freelance journalist since 2005 and specialises in consumer technology, smart living (incorporating eco-design) and audio. He spends his days writing about and reviewing everything from headphones and Hi-Fi to video doorbells and microwaves. You name it, he has probably reviewed it.

Previously Consumer Editor for Ideal Home, Chris is currently Contributing Editor for WIRED UK and writes regularly for Grand Designs, T3, BBC Music, Stuff, House Beautiful, Ideal Home, British Airways High Life and many others. Earlier this year (2018) Chris won Best Tech Feature at the CEDIA EMEA Awards.

Chris also runs a successful consultancy, founded to help consumer technology brands talk effectively to a wider audience.

Jordan O’Brien Jordan O’Brien has been writing about technology for more than half a decade, specialising in everything from smartphones to high-end AV. He can currently be found musing about the latest and greatest developments in the smart home sector on
Justin Kennington Justin Kennington is the president of the SDVoE Alliance and director of strategic marketing at Semtech, responsible for the company’s AptoVision BlueRiver chipsets for AV-KVM signal extension, matrix switching, IP-based switching, video wall and multi-view applications. He was formerly the technology manager of DigitalMedia™ at Crestron and is widely recognised as an influential technologist in professional AV. He received InfoComm’s Young AV Professional of the Year Award in 2014.
Mark Craven Mark Craven combines his passions for movies and AV technology as the editor of Home Cinema Choice, a role he’s held for six years—he previously worked as deputy editor and production editor, and before that as a lowly sub-editor on Total DVD magazine. During that time Mark has visited installations and demonstration systems across the country, always taking his own choice Blu-ray and music titles with him.

Home Cinema Choice (or ‘HCC’ as it’s known to it readers) is the UK’s leading consumer-focused AV magazine. Published 13 times a year, its content covers everything from premium home cinema hardware to affordable accessories and software.

Steve May Steve May is a freelance technology journalist, writing for a variety of popular UK websites and publications. He’s the editor of custom install website Inside CI, and contributes to a variety of consumer and trade publications, including Home Cinema Choice, T3, TechRadar, Trusted Reviews and Pocket Lint. From 4K UHD TVs to immersive home cinema, Steve specialises in all aspects of home entertainment.
Stuart Hillis Stuart is managing director of Bees Buzz PR—a public relations agency working solely in pro AV which operates on both sides of the Atlantic. For a few years, Stuart headed up PR at one of Europe’s largest AV distributors, Midwich, before going on to be a former director at a London PR agency specialising in broadcast and media technology.

A creative thinker and respected writer, Stuart has over 20 years’ experience in journalism prior to ‘converting’ to PR, in a career that has ranged from working with young offenders to dining with European ministers—along with being shot at in the Middle East!

An avid fan of quality sound and vision since the 70s, he now thankfully avoids the fashion of the era, but retains that passion and interest in all things technology, with the experience of over 25 years in media and communications.

Zak Vracevic Zak runs M.E.G.A. AV Installations (M.E.G.A. Stands for Massively Entertaining Greatly Appreciated AV), a London-based company, with over 50 projects completed in UK, Italy, and France.

AV work includes whole-home automation and lighting design, listening rooms, luxury private cinemas and anything in between.


The winners will be announced at an awards evening on Tuesday 30 April at EI Live! 2019.
