This family wanted the biggest screen possible for watching movies in the media room. A normal widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio screen would have been limited because of the height of the screen…however we fitted a 2.35:1 ratio screen which allows it to virtually fit the width of the room and means that, along with the special ‘anamorphic’ lens attached to the projector, movies can be watched without black bars top and bottom…just as the director intended.
For day-to-day viewing there’s a 55″ Panasonic TV in the media room but at a touch of the remote control the 3 m motorised screen descends from the hidden slot in the ceiling, the projector springs to life and the lights dim ready for the movie experience. To keep everything out of site, all the equipment is housed in racks located in two custom-built cupboards below the screen. The subwoofers are also located in these cupboards so acoustically transparent fabric is used on the front of them to ensure perfect sound. The surround sound soundtrack is ably handled by B&W in-ceiling speakers.
In addition to the media room, video content can also be distributed to Panasonic TVs in the kitchen/diner area and the master bedroom.
“Cyberhomes did a fantastic job. They explained things in everyday language, did what they promised when they said they would, and worked with other suppliers extremely smoothly. It’s a well-run operation with a professional, close-knit team.
“We’re delighted with our home cinema—the only problem is, the kids have commandeered it!”
