I See the Lights - A Sky Full of Stars
The client brief, like many of our home cinema projects, was for the screen to be “as big as possible”. But what does “big as possible” actually mean?
At Cyberhomes we would never just install a screen that completely fills a wall of the room without careful and considered drawings and calculations. We take into account the aspect ratio of the screen (for example, will the client be mainly watching movies or high-definition TV), viewing angles from the seating positions, projector lens throw and many other factors including of course compliance with latest Building Regulations. In this project we even relocated the home’s boiler in order to optimise the access stairs, allowing us more flexibility on the screen location and ultimately its size.

The Services Provided
The Atmos height speakers were integrated into a bespoke starfield ceiling with custom LED lighting in the walls and ceiling coffer completing the stunning look of the room.

Our in-house fabrication team constructed a two-tier seating arrangement capable of accommodating six people. The staircase was cleverly redesigned so you could step down to the front row of seats and up to the rear seating. All this allowed us to achieve a 3.5 m wide screen with motorised side masking to seamlessly change aspect ratio from 2.4:1 to 16:9 depending on the content being viewed.

The screen is acoustically transparent allowing the left, centre and right Artcoustic speakers and the two Artcoustic Spitfire subwoofers to be perfectly located behind the screen. A bespoke framework was designed and built to house the speakers and screen, lined with acoustic panels for a solution that was both resonant-free and aesthetically pleasing. The remaining surround and rear speakers were also hidden behind stretched-fabric walls to keep them out of sight but certainly not out of hearing.

A Control4 based control system was installed to make the whole cinema room easy to use. Not only controlling the various video sources (including Kaleidescape movie server, Ultra-HD Blu-Ray player and PS5 games console), projector and audio processors/amplifiers; lighting control was also integrated. This allowed complex functions like “watch movie” and “room off” to be reduced to single-button operation.
